CONSULTANCY SERVICES FOR FEASIBILITY STUDY OF THE PROPOSED FLOOD CONTROL SYSTEM FOR LAKE BARINGO

1. General Background

Central Rift Valley Water Works Development Agency was established under Water Act 2016, as an autonomous agency report­ing to the Ministry of Water, Sanitation and Irrigation.

The Agency was created to improve delivery of water services within areas of its jurisdiction which include Baringo, Laikipia, Nakuru, Narok and Nyandarua Counties mainly through construction of National Bulk Water and Sewerage Works.

2. Project Objective

The primary objective of Flood Control System for Lake Baringo is to reduce the rising water level on Lake Baringo and utilize the water for irrigation in Tiaty and Turkana East Sub-Counties.

3. Previous Investigations and Reports

There are no previous studies and reports on the system.

4. Request for the Expression of Interest

The Government of Kenya intend to finance the project through suitable credit that meets the financing requirement. The Min­istry of Water, Sanitation and Irrigation through Central Rift Valley Water Works Development Agency intends to identify a suitably qualified Consultancy firm to undertake the Feasibility Study.

5. Scope of Works
6. i)Carry out Hydrological study, Geological and Geotechnical Studies of the selected route for the canal, offtakes and on other infrastructure sites to guide on the design
7. ii)Prepare Safety Plans/Report

iii)    Carry out route survey, preliminary design of canal and associated works

1. iv)Carry out Environmental and Social Impact Assessment(ESIA)and assist the Client to acquire the Licence.
2. v)Prepare the Resettlement Action Plan (RAP) and Valuation Report of Project Affected Persons/Institutions for areas affected by the project.
3. vi)Carry out Technical, financial and Social Feasibility studies for the project

vii)  Prepare feasibility study report.

6. Expression of Interest

The Central Rift Valley Water Works Development Agency now invites eligible Consulatncy firms to indicate their interest, for Consultancy Services. Firms or Joint Ventures should provide information demonstrating that they have the required financial capabilities or backing, technical qualifications and relevant experience to perform the Services. The Firms or Joint ventures that meet all the following qualification criteria will be prequalified :

1. i)Experience in Conducting Feasibility study and Design of at least one project with canal with discharge of 260m3/s capacity and 100km length in the last 5 years
2. ii)Experience in Similar Conditions i.e. in a developing country.

iii)    Availability of appropriate skilled staff including GIS Expert, Irrigation expert, Water Engineer/Hydraulic Engineer, Structural Engineer, Geotechnical Engineer, Water Resource Expert/Hydrologist, An Environmentalist, a Sociologist, Surveyor, etc.

7. Interested Firms or Joint Ventures may download the shortlisting criteria document from website www.crvwwda.go.ke or at PPIP portal .Further information can be obtained at the address below from 0800 to 1700 hours from Monday to Friday excluding public holidays.
8. Expression of interest shall be opened on 7^th  December,2021 as from 12.05 P.M
