The Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH implements The Agri-Jobs 4 Youth initiative which comprises two projects: The Rural Youth Employment (RYE) and the Youth Employment in the Agri-Food Sector in Western Kenya (YEA). Agri-Jobs 4 Youth follows an integrated, holistic approach to youth employment promotion. The initiative is being implemented in the Western Kenyan counties of Bungoma, Kakamega, Kisumu, Siaya and Vihiga. Agri-Jobs 4 Youth follows a value chain approach, focussing on poultry, passions fruit, apiculture and groundnut. These value chains have been identified based on their pronounced youth friendliness and high potential for income generation and employment creation.
The project duration extends from 2020 to 2024 (5 years). Agri-Job’s 4 Youth is implemented by the German development agency Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, in partnership with the Kenyan Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Cooperatives (MoALFC). GIZ has been commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) for the implementation of this initiative. Agri-Jobs 4 Youth cooperates and coordinates with a diverse range of public and private sector institutions as well as civil society, to capitalise on the benefit*, of plurality and inclusivity for transformative change.
GIZ is seeking for consultants to support the developement of value chain suitability maps for passion fruit and apiculture in Kisumu, Siaya, Bungoma, Kakamega and Vihiga Counties. The assignment involves the assessment and mapping of high potential passion fruit (purple, yellow and ester varieties), apiculture production and suitability maps for the integrated farming systems with passion fruit and apiculture.
Interested consultant must have Graduate degree (master’s preferred) in relevant subjects i.e. Agriculture, Agricultur.il Engineering Rural Development: at least 10 years’ experience in agricultural and rural development, food systems, value chain development and biophysical and socio-economic mapping; minimum five (5) years in Skills on GIS and mapping especially on suitability mapping: prior experience in development projects in Western Kenya.
Interested consultants must provide verifiable proof of qualifications and experience in similar/related services. The tenderer is also requested to provide a summary assessment of the team proposed and must specify their positions, task, and qualifications for each expert.
