FOR REFURBISHMENT OF ANIMAL REARING & CONTAINMENT UNIT (ARCU) AT Icipe DUDUVILLE CAMPUS, KASARANI, NAIROBI, KENYA

1.0 INTRODUCTION
The International Centre of Insect Physiology and Ecology [icipe] is an intergovernmental organisation headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya that carries out research and training in sustainable management of insects (arthropods] for improving comprehensive health and agricultural productivity in the tropics (www.jcip5.Qfg)-
icipe intends to refurbish the existing Animal Rearing and Containment (ARC] Unit to enhance its capacity and functionality. The ARC Unit plays a crucial role in supporting research and training by ensuring the controlled rearing, containment and study of insects for scientific purposes. The facility is approximately 2,723 SM and has been in existence for nearly 38 years.
To further strengthen its capabilities, icipe is integrating the ARC Unit with a mobile field laboratory, which is planned to be acquired. This integration will provide researchers and students with a seamless link between controlled laboratory studies and real-world field applications. By refurbishing the ARC Unit, icipe aims to optimize its infrastructure to accommodate the new mobile lab, improve research workflows and expand training opportunities.
2.0 PROJECT LOCATION
The site for the proposed works is icipe Duduville Campus, Nairobi County, Kenya.
3.0 PROJECT SCOPE
The task will include structural renovations, including repairs to walls, S – flooring and roofing to improve durability. Electrical and plumbing upgrades will be undertaken to modernize the facility, alongside the installation of a new H VAC system to regulate temperature and humidity. The refurbishment will also reinforce moats and expansion joints. Laboratory spaces will be improved with upgraded containment areas, workbenches and specialized ‘ research facilities. Additionally, biosecurity measures and safety systems, such as fire suppression and compliance upgrades will be put in place to ‘ meet regulatory standards. Aesthetic and functional enhancements, such as repainting, improved lighting and optimized facility layout to create a more efficient working environment for researchers and staff.
4.0 EOI INVITATION
icipe now invites Expression of Interest from eligible firms who are able to demonstrate both technical and financial capability to carry out refurbishment works at the Animal Rearing and Containment (ARC] Unit that include Building, Electrical and Mechanical works as well as upgrades to plumbing, climate control, biosecurity and safety systems to enhance the facility’s functionality and research capacity.
