BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT/COACHING/MENTORSHIP SUPPORT TO SELECTED STOVE BUSINESSES IN KENYA 

Opportunity

Access to finance for stoves businesses in Kenya has been cited as one of the many challenges constraining the transformation of the cooking sub-sector into a more vibrant profit-making sector. Relevant discussions in many fora’s have alluded to the fact that the sub-sector needs to work on availing bankable ideas/businesses deemed attractive to the financiers, who on another hand indicate that there is ready financing. In its contribution towards resolving this challenge, the GCF project recognizes that targeted capacity building to stoves businesses, be it in form of mentorship or coaching for stoves businesses in various topics related to enterprise development as well as support with development of bankable investment plans are just but some of the various ways of transforming the value chain.

Call for Expressions of Interests (Eols)

The GCF project has identified up to 60 stoves businesses which are currently being supported in different ways, majority of which are operating at jua kali informal I level. The project intends to provide more targeted mentorship support to at least 35 stoves businesses to grow into bankable entities. Such entities will have well-developed investment plans with at least 15 of them accessing finance from both the conventional and non-conventional credit providers. To achieve this, GIZ, is seeking the services of a consultant to provide this support. The capacity building will take the form of training, coaching and mentoring for the selected businesses.

Interested bidders will be required to review the qualifications in the Terms of Reference (ToRs) which will be shared. Verifiable proof of qualifications and experience will be required for all the bidders.
