REQUEST FOR EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST
(CONSULTING SERVICES – INDIVIDUAL CONSULTANTS)
PROJECT: IMPROVING PUBLIC HEALTH AND ENHANCING TECHNICAL SKILLS OF YOUTH IN KENYA THROUGH SANITATION
TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER
ASSIGNMENT TITLE: CONSULTANCY SERVICES ON TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT OF CURRICULUM AND MATERIALS FOR COMMUNITY SENSITIZATION
FOR LOW COST IMPROVED PIT LATRINES (SATO)

The Government of Kenya through Kenya Water Institute (KEWI) has received financing from
African Development Bank towards the cost of Improving Public Health and Enhancing Technical
Skills of Youth in Kenya through Sanitation Technology Transfer and intend to apply part of the
proceeds for consulting services.
1. The consulting services (“the Services”) involve Training and provision of materials for
community sensitization for low cost improved pit latrines and Training and provision of materials
for community sensitization and installation & management supervision for Green Toilet System (GTS)
2. The scope of the work for the Consultant will include but not limited to:
a) Train 20 no. KEWI lecturers (Training of trainers) on GTS and low-cost safe pit latrine
technologies (SATO toilets) and staff of Oloolaiser Water and Sewerage Company
Limited (OWSCO) on GTS
b) Training and training material materials for 250 no. community sensitization (Women
and Youth) on low cost improved pit latrines
c) Provide Training and training material for community sensitization (20 no. Youth, 50
no. Farmers, 6 no. Community Health Workers and Manual Septage Emptiers) on
Green Toilet System (GTS)
d) Provide installation & management supervision for Green Toilet System (GTS) and
low-cost safe pit latrines (SATO toilets)
e) Ensure effective, efficient and speedy discharge of his duties
f) Document processes, standards, or guidelines as necessary
g) Develop documentation for all his scope of works in the project.
h) Assist with planning and scheduling of the projects; and
i) Provide other assistance as necessary to deliver the work program.
3. The consultant will carry out the assignment for a period of 22 months.
4. Kenya Water Institute now invites eligible consulting individuals (“Consultants”) to Express their
Interest in providing the Services. Interested Consultants should provide information demonstrating
that they have the required qualifications and relevant experience to perform the Services. The
shortlisting criteria are
a). Academic qualification of at least a Bachelors’ (or equivalent) in Engineering field or
related area
b. Six to ten (6) years’ relevant experience;
c. Experience in similar assignments, specifically experience in undertaking development
partners or Government funded projects.
d. Excellent written and spoken English and Kiswahili.
e. Strong interpersonal skills and integrity with experience of working in teams
f. Excellent analytical, multi-tasking, and assessment skills;
g. Mastery of Bank standard software, in particular, Excel, Word, PowerPoint Languages
required;
h. Flexibility, integrity, professionalism, respect for diversity and a strong team player
5. A Consultant will be selected in accordance with the Consultant Guidelines for recruitment of
Individual Consultants Section V which states “individual consultants are selected on the basis of
their qualifications for the assignments. Consultants shall be selected through comparison of
qualifications of at least three candidates (not exceed six) among those who have expressed
interest in the assignment or have been approached directly by the borrower. Individuals
considered for comparison of qualifications shall meet the minimum relevant qualifications and
those selected to be employed by the borrower shall be the best qualified and shall be fully capable
of carrying out the assignment. Capability is judged on the basis of academic background,
experience, and, as appropriate, knowledge of local conditions, such as local language, culture,
administrative systems and Government organization.”

7. Expressions of interest must be delivered in a written form to the address below (in person, or by
mail, or by e-mail) by close of business on 8th June,2022
