END OF PROJECT EVALUATION FOR THE ONE HEALTH PROJECT IN MARSABIT COUNTY, NORTHERN KENYA AND DIRE WOREDA BORANA ZONE, SOUTHERN ETHIOPIA
- Introduction and Background
Malteser International (MI), in collaboration with the Pastoralist Community Initiative and Development Assistance (PACIDA), has been implementing a 3-year resilience project titled: “Using a One Health Approach to Strengthen the Resilience of the Semi-Nomadic Population in the Border Region of Kenya and Ethiopia.” The project targeted pastoralist communities, focusing on human, livestock, and environmental health through a One Health approach.
The project aimed to:
- Strengthen and establish One Health systems and structures.
- Improve health, food security, and WASH practices.
- Integrate research components and establish sustainable model farms.
- The target communities in the Marsabit County (Kenya) and Dire Woreda (Ethiopia) include the Gabbra and Borana ethnic groups, facing challenges due to water scarcity, limited access to markets, and zoonotic diseases.
- Purpose of the Evaluation
The primary purpose of this evaluation is to assess the relevance, coherence, effectiveness, efficiency, impact, and sustainability of the One Health Project. The findings from this evaluation will guide future programming, sustainability strategies, and policy advocacy. The evaluation will also document achievements, challenges, and lessons learned.
The evaluation will follow the OECD-DAC evaluation criteria, addressing:
- Relevance: Appropriateness in addressing the identified needs.
- Coherence: Alignment with existing policies and strategies.
- Effectiveness: Extent of achievement of project objectives.
- Efficiency: Resource utilization in achieving results.
- Impact: Tangible changes brought to the communities.
- Sustainability: Potential for long-term benefits.
