BACKGROUND
Tax Justice Network Africa [TJNA], established in 2007, is a Pan-African research and advocacy organization with 38 members spreading across 16 African countries, and a member of the Global Alliance for Tax Justice [GATJ]. We believe in tax justice and advocate for equitable, and progressive tax policies and the strengthening of tax systems. TJNA’s scope of work covers promotion of fair tax systems, increase of mobilisation of domestic revenues and reduction of illicit financial flows (IFFs] out of Africa. TJNA also plays a leading role in global coalitions committed to tackling the phenomena of global tax avoidance and evasion and achieving fundamental reforms of the current global financial architecture
The work of TJNA is coordinated through a Secretariat, which is headed by an Executive Director. The Executive Director has the responsibility of submitting annual audited financial statements of the Secretariat to cooperation partners, stakeholders and governing bodies.
The financial statements of the Secretariat are prepared as per Generally Accepted Accounting Practices [GAAPs], the Financial Policies and procedures of TJNA and relevant rules and regulations of cooperating partners, as appropriate. The accounts are required to be audited by external audit firms registered with the accountancy body in Kenya ICPAK
ASSIGNMENT
TJNA intends to engage an independent reputable audit firm to carry out the statutory audit of its institutional and project financial statements for the financial year ending December 31,2020. The contract will be renewable for a period of between three and five years.
OBJECTIVES OF THE ASSIGNMENT
- To express a professional and independent opinion on the Financial Statements of TJNA for the financial year under review and on whether the statements present fairly the financial position and were prepared as per accounting principles, standards and all relevant laws and regulations.
- Confirm that funds received from TJNA donors are used for the intended purpose and as per the provisions of Grant Agreements.
- Provide an opinion on whether TJNA maintains adequate internal controls and supporting documentation for its transactions.
