REMINDER ON ENFORCEMENT OF THE ELECTRONIC TAX INVOICE – KRA
KENYA REVENUE AUTHORITY TENDER JUNE 2023
Public Notice
Reminder on Enforcement of the Electronic Tax Invoice
Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) would like to remind the public that effective 1st June, 2023, all VAT
registered taxpayers are required to only accept electronic tax invoices from registered taxpayers in
compliance with the VAT (Electronic Tax Invoice) Regulations, 2020 for purposes of claiming input tax and
processing of VAT refunds, as communicated in our Public Notice of 9th May, 2023 titled, “Enforcement of
the Electronic Tax Invoice”.
When filing the VAT return, VAT registered taxpayers are guided to declare the unique Control Unit invoice
numbers and not the trader system invoice numbers in the sales and purchase declarations so as to
minimize inconsistencies.
Enforcement measures shall be instituted against VAT registered taxpayers who will not comply by 1st June,
2023.
KRA will continue to support and facilitate any taxpayer in the process of complying with the Regulations and
takes this opportunity to thank all compliant VAT registered taxpayers.
The requirement to generate electronic tax invoices does not apply to registered non-resident suppliers of
digital services. However, the non-resident digital service suppliers are required to issue invoices or receipts
indicating the value of the supply and tax charged.
