The County Government of Samburu invites Expression of Interest (EOI) eligible and interested investors, local or foreign with demonstrated experience in running a lodge for the leasing of Samburu Game Lodge, a tourist facility that is fully owned by the Samburu County Government and situated within the Samburu National Reserve.
The lodge is located inside Samburu National Reserve, the most famous and most visited attraction of Samburu Land, on the northern banks of Ewaso Nyiro river, a unique natural gem covering 165 sqkm, which makes it neither Kenya’s nor the County’s largest nature reserve. With the highest wildlife variety and density in the country, possibly second only to the Maasai Mara.
Samburu National Reserve is known for high elephant numbers and the rare dryland fauna of northern Kenya, the ‘Samburu Five’ comprising of Beisa oryx, Somali ostrich, reticulated giraffe, gerenuk and Grevy’s zebra. All in all, there are 50 species of larger mammals identified in Samburu National Reserve, amongst them the great cat’s lion, leopard and cheetah, as well as impala, greater and lesser kudu and a prolific birdlife, of which hornbill, vulturine Guinea fowl, weaver birds and various birds of prey that are mostly conspicuous. Samburu National Reserve’s scenic landscape is an experience in its own, combining undulating landscapes of doum palm fringed river banks, bold rocky outcrops and vast grassland savannah with acacia trees. Within the Reserve and at its fringes, there are wonderfully set lodges and safari camps. Not surprisingly, Samburu National Reserve boasts the best tourist infrastructure of all conservation areas in northern Kenya and guarantees its visitors an unforgettable safari experience
The setting of Samburu Game Lodge along Ewaso Nyiro river, in the shade of doum palm and acacia trees is picturesque. There are rather rustic wooden cottages on one side of the public area and a room tract which is currently undergoing renovation and upgrading on the other.
The wooden cottages are cosy and nicely decorated, with a comfortable bed with mosquito net, couch, writing desk and a fan. The bathrooms are spacious and equipped with a hot shower, a huge mirror and some beauty products. From the veranda in front of the cottage, you have a view of the walkway and the river behind. All of the 61 cottages, rooms and suites overlook the river and there is one room equipped for physically challenged persons. Within the high end accommodation facilities at the lodge, be prepared to share your restaurant table with civet cats at night and horn-bills and vervet monkeys during the day, while you are watching the crocodiles and maybe even spot an elephant or two on the other side of the river – a wonderful experience.
Samburu Game lodge, has conference facilities for up to 100 participants, a dispensary with a clinical officer on permanent stand-by, a gift shop, a bureau de change and a beautiful swimming pool with jacuzzi, sun beds and a pool side bar. Apart from game drives, the lodge also offers bird walks and cultural dances by Samburu women and warriors. The staff of Samburu Game Lodge are helpful and friendly.

- The Grounds: The lawns and gardens of the Samburu Game Lodge host many rare species of 7ees. flowers and shrubs, and there are many places guests enjoy sitting among the shade of the trees with the sweet scent of t:_ca nvillea all around.
