PROVISION OF A MODERN WAREHOUSE FACILITY IN MOMBASA
The United Nations World Food Programme (UNWFP) is the food-assistance agency of the United Nations and is the world’s largest humanitarian organization addressing hunger and promoting food security.
To complement its operations in Kenya and the region, UNWFP seeks to rent a modern warehouse space in Mombasa.
The facility will have to comply with the following minimum criteria:
- Area of covered warehouse required is a minimum of 200,000 square feet in a single location/ plot for both Kenya cargo and Transit cargo under bonded warehouses. Consideration will also be given for warehouses with less capacity but can demonstrate verifiable plan to add more space within same premises in a given specified time as well as companies that currently do not have the facility in place but can provide detailed road map to do so within a specified time frame.
- Location should be within Mombasa city limits .preferably within the proposed Free Economic Zone area or Industrial site not more than 15 kilometers away from port. The access link from*’ port to the warehouse facility should be tarmacked or easily accessed
- Adequate water supply and storage or access to a borehole
- Sufficient power supply of industrial voltage and a backup generator or solar energy
- Warehouse grounds should have adequate space for trucks to maneuver, offload/load cargo as well as parking (not less than 100,000 square feet).
- Permanent perimeter fence reinforced with electric wire.
- Warehouse should have provision for office space / conference / training rooms with electrical connecting ports for use of office electrical and electronic equipment able to seat 40 staff members.
- Within a gated compound and fully automated.
- Warehouses should meet all statutory requirements for the storage of food for human consumption as well as building safety codes as per Local Government health and safety regulations. These should include, but not be limited to: good internal ventilation, non-usage of toxic building materials etc (evidence of the same to be provided including up to date necessary permits and licenses).
- Facility to be equipped with modern latest technology with deployment of CCTV technology, food grade fully racked setup warehouse full compliance as per the latest import / export rules and – regulations by Customs Authorities .fully licenced for loading and stuffing facilities.
- Ambient temperature-controlled warehouse, from +15 °C to +25 °C, 200,000 square feet.
- Availability of bonded status/free storage.
- Power stations for reefers (~220 \ ~380).
- The warehouse shall have adequate staff rest rooms away from the storage areas.
- The warehouse shall have a dedicated waste segregation area.
- Should ideally be ready for occupation from June 2023.
UNWFP invites qualified landlords/agents who are duly registered and authorized in accordance with the prevailing laws of Kenya to submit their applications for consideration for shortlisting.
The following are the minimum documentation requirements that will be considered for review.
- i)Detailed Company profile
- ii)Certificate of Incorporation
iii) Valid KRA VAT certificate, KRA PIN Number and Tax Compliance Certificate.
- iv)Plot number, location, and plot acreage
- v)Layout of the facility
- vi)Statutory documentation relating to compliance with personnel safety and storage of human food
vii) Current business licenses, permits and valid proof of insurance of the building against fire hazards
viii) Proof of ownership/title deed of facility or lease agreement (Lease agreement should be for a period of more than two years).
Procedure of participation in the shortlisting process.
- Potential companies that feel they meet the outlined requirements must confirm their interest by filling a registration form.

- Only interested parties who register will be provided with further information regarding the shortlisting procedure.
